Non-government Schools Education Council

The Non-government Schools Education Council (NGSEC) was established in accordance with section 106 of the Education Act 2004 (the Act). The Council provides an opportunity for the non-government school sector to have a role in formulating advice to government on school education policy.

The Council’s functions required by the Act are:

  • to advise the Minister for Education and Training on any aspect of
    non-government schooling
  • when asked by the Minister, to inquire into and give advice to the Minister on any aspect of non-government schooling
  • to meet with the Government Schools Education Council (GSEC) to discuss matters of mutual interest
  • to exercise any other function given to the council under the Act or any other Territory law.

Under section 127 of the Education Act 2004 the Minister must present a copy of any advice from NGSEC to the Legislative Assembly.

The Council meets approximately every six weeks.

Secretariat

The Department of Education and Training provides secretariat and advisory assistance to the Council.
